About Me

Janet Reed

Qualified Counsellor/Psychotherapist

  • MBACP (Registered Member)
  • BSc Psychology and Sociology
  • FdSc Counselling and Psychotherapy (distinction)

After studying Psychology and Sociology at University, I worked as a negotiator in the cable telecommunications industry. Often working in volatile situations with conflicting parties, I learnt the importance of listening to others and providing a calm environment that invited compromise and the possibility of creative resolutions.

A decision to change my career and train to become a professional therapist, enabled me to further develop my listening skills. As a counsellor, I listen attentively to clients with empathy, patience and intuition, to try and understand what they are trying to say. Put simply, I believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to be heard in a safe, non-judgemental space that offers respect and kindness.

I have chosen the name beacon-therapy because when we are struggling it can seem that life has little colour or meaning. You may feel that you are unable to experience the subtle hues of colour that bring joy and meaning in life. You may find that you are existing in the darkness, suffering alone in silence. I offer you compassion and I will walk alongside you in those distressing times.

Remember, I have sat where you are, so please rest assured that you will receive kindness, warmth and care.

You are not alone.
