How I work
My core training sits within the Person-Centred/Humanistic approach that aims to offer you a safe and trusting space which is collaborative, genuine, non-judgemental, kind and empathic. I believe that everyone is different and my work respectfully responds to that difference and individual needs.
In professional practice, this means that I have found that it is important for me as a therapist not to be overly restricted to one theoretical model. In real-life, I have found that working in a more pluralistic way is more effective.
For example, one client may prefer to sit with silence during the session, whilst another may prefer time to simply off-load. Other clients prefer a more directive approach, maybe some guidance or interventions. Clients may want to know why they are thinking, feeling or behaving in certain ways that is causing an increase in anxiety or stress.
My 'tool-kit' can also draw upon elements of cognitive, somatic and psychodynamic therapies or psychoeducation can be integrated and woven into the session if and when appropriate.
Currently, I am working online (Teams) or via the telephone.
Experience
I have experience working for a National Bereavement Charity and have received considerable training in this area. I support clients experiencing grief, loss, bereavement after suicide, trauma and the complex issues that arise from experiencing grief.
I have experience working for a local mental health charity, supporting clients experiencing many issues. This includes clients that have been signposted by their GP or other charities.
What I can help with
Counselling can help with a wide range of problems that are too lengthy to list here. It is sometimes too hard to fit your needs into a specific ‘category’ because they are unique to you, may be quite complex, and may involve feelings or emotions or behaviours we just don’t understand ourselves or that are occurring for no apparent reason. If you are unsure, get in touch and we can chat about what it is you might need.

Getting Started
I understand that it can be daunting choosing a counsellor, so I offer an initial, no obligation assessment for approx. 15 minutes. This gives you the opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy and what you would like to get out of it.
Once we have agreed to work together, I will email you a copy of the contract for you to read carefully and sign. In order to work ethically and keep you safe, the contract requests certain client details including medical information and emergency contacts. All data is kept securely, in accordance with the Data Protection Act. Further information can be found in my Privacy Notice.
Other Information
I am fully insured, fully qualified with up to date DBS checks.
I only work with adults (aged 18 plus) at this time.
